The Golden Spiral

Chapter Thirty Five

The Prejudices of Self

Eastern traditions have often referred to the concept of "Self is Consciousness" This has been mainly known in the Hindu or the vedanta tradition. In Buddhism, however it was considered to approach this subject without any preconceived ideologies attached to anything called Self.

I have been studying the concept of Self from a very vedic standpoint, not to mention have often thought very hard on the principles offered by other traditions wherein, one could visualize the supreme reality of having "No-Self" at all.

While I was studying the various possibilities surrounding Self or an Active conscious Observer, I came across the unique subject of "Prejudices of the Self" What could these be? For instance, what exactly was Self? Many masters have spoken about Self as an "Entity" and it is often referred to as Ghost in Christian traditions or Spirit. Yet, I had to deviate from all these traditional and religious teachings and start on my own journey trying to find what were these prejudices of self that stared at me.

Foremost of the prejudices of Self is the "Defense mechanism system" called "Ego" or the I-Consciousness. The ego often gets triggered by both internal and external forces, when it is actually involved in its own design to protect the interests of Self, from any sense of personal dis-empowerment or disharmony. These triggers can come quite suddenly or even in a patterned manner. Everybody lives a particular pattern in life as it progresses. Once that pattern is disturbed, the person feels disempowerment or "Un-grounded-ness"

Once that happens, the ego triggers its internalized power system, to throw as much energy from its resources from within that the trigger points get a sense of repulsion first of all. Then slowly something changes in both the energy thrown out and the one being blocked out by ego, coming in towards its core from an outside influence.

Secondary to ego is the subtle mind or the subconscious. As very powerful as it is, the subtle mind can create, co create or even destroy some portion of energy flow within the system of Self. This destruction can sometimes become partially irretrievable or completely dissolved. The subtle mind is supported by the Multi sensory perceptive tools called commonly the six senses. Five of these control the physical realities and the sixth is a very vast subject to delve into. Intuition and creativity stem out of this sixth sense which is in fact a plethora of 17 other senses.

When the Self is constantly busy in the manifestation of empirical evidences outside of itself, the prejudices start their networking of challenges in that very process. Self decides both for and against its own agendas and its parameters. Whenever paradigms are formed, Self struggles to break free from them and thus ends up being either partially or completely mauled into a corner of its own making. This is a very common factor in today's walks of daily life.

We are hence, constantly being challenged by these prejudices of self, even as we deny all these and try and lead a practical lifestyle devoid of any division or a sense of separation from other sentient beings. It becomes a  rigmarole for the so called Observer to keep track of how many layers of realities we create and the same holds for the multiple illusory levels created by these prejudices as well

The next level of such prejudices is governed by the master of all tools viz. "The Intellect". This is unfortunately often the reason for many a great mind to fall from grace or deviate from its core issues. The intellect leads one to discriminate and analyze facts and falsehoods. Prejudices come to the fore-lore here as well and facts are often "Mentally recorded" as "Truths" The difference being facts are not a set of truths, because they don't leave any room for the process of 'Exhaustion of all Possibilities" Truth does that. Truth also always stands out regardless of who is saying it or who is listening to it. Facts can be easily manipulated as per the 'Whims and fancies of the Self"--- another set of prejudices.

Then comes another deeper sense of understanding from a spot in consciousness, called Awareness. Another form of prejudice of self. Awareness is a fact not Truth. Awareness for many, seems like a 'Commodity" that can be "Purchased" outside at a market. The definition of Truth at any given circumstance would be "Exhaustion of all Possibilities" before we arrive at something which cannot be debated. Awareness is a mere relative term used for one's evolutionary process, which can be at a greater pace one time when compared to another time on the same linear scale of anyone's journey. But then, are there journeys? Are there paths? Are there destinations at all? I would love to take a closer look.

I would render it completely possible that in totality of consciousness, the Observer is actually all of these factors that comprise of destination, journey, passenger, paths, vehicles and also the respective baggage as well. Once we have understood this as a reality, then we definitely move on to higher vibratory realities. At some point we do dissolve all these prejudices to completely annihilate any other possibilities than what is in the "Present"

Next come what we refer to as abilities or skills. personal gifts such as psychical abilities, ability to perceive things differently than what our mind has been programmed to do or what our intellect leads us towards. These form a sense of belonging for a time, till the time we feel satisfied of both successes and failures to use these skills. After a while, all these skills becomes nothing but delusional attachments. Then the prejudices of Self start to reverse that process and we start living in denials of these. This could engulf one's Observer patterns completely into newer dimensions, regardless of what one intends to do.

Here we enter into what can be called an internalized battle between intention and "Flow" While we consciously or subconsciously intend energy to go in a particular direction, after it has left our Mind, it takes its own course. This is the eventual reality of every intention, regardless of the multitude of choices we make or results we get attached with. An individual's personal will becomes completely asynchronous or synchronous with that of the cosmic Will. But to recognize a cosmic will, one first has to establish that there is a cosmic being, outside of oneself. Which is again driven by a prejudice-- namely-- I am cosmic in my own reality. This could be easily taken as delusional feeling as well. I could be a very minuscule reality within a cosmic reality, yet may or may not have an unlimited boundary beyond what we just established as our own mythical objective reality or Cosmic being-ness.

Once such a battle has begun, then the inner churning can take many turns and tides. There is never a situation that prejudices don't wake up quite suddenly and make a person feel completely defenseless or dis-empowered. As far as our intention is concerned, billions of possibilities are co-created in accordance with nature's laws and can become quite a tedious affair to maintain all loops and find a solution to each of our routine issues based on our attachment to results. But living in a universe which embodies quantum consciousness, it is often a freely flowing mind that gets minimum hassles during such self evolution. There are no tricks available, no certainties and no help outside of Self available, as each individual experiences both possibilities and prejudices arising out of the attributes of self, which seem quite inseparable.

However, the power of intention plays a pivotal role in one's developmental process. It cannot extend beyond its limitations, yet is a vital aspect of life. Intention takes away the maximum energy from a person, whilst he is devising a clever plan to execute any of the choices he ahs made for the fruition of all karmic issues. To hold oneself completely away from karmic issues is also a big challenge for humans to reckon with. Deeper layers of both realities and illusions create a zone of comfort and discomfort for the Observer and often leave a trail of events, unexpected as they come through the doorways of existence and yet they provide some solace in a very unique way to each individual.

To remain unaffected by these prejudices is a very highly spiritual process which many don't even recognize in their lifetimes. Allowing everything to flow, including the freedom of mind, that has a nature to flow freely on all planes of consciousness, allowing the Spirit to reincarnate or not based on its own nature and also treating each physical area with care and pure intent to bring everything to its own center is what a powerful individual would aspire for. Spiritual experiences can turn sour, normal behavioral patterns may change dramatically, warnings of inner guidance may be overlooked at times, warnings from other members of one's soul group may be overlooked as well. Yet one needs to shed all facades away and carry on with a smiling face all along and not have to look back at any point of the spiritual process.
